Project Overview
This project focused on replacing an aging elevated deck with a custom covered outdoor living space in Lewisville, NC featuring a stamped concrete patio, vaulted gable roof structure, brick veneer skirting, stamped concrete walkway, and upgraded entry access. The homeowners wanted a more durable, lower-maintenance outdoor environment that would integrate naturally with the architecture of the existing home while providing a comfortable space for relaxing and entertaining.
The renovation included demolition of the original deck structure and construction of a new 26-foot by 12-foot stamped concrete patio finished in a stone gray color using an Ashler Slate stamp pattern. Matching stamped concrete steps and a connecting walkway were also installed to create a seamless appearance across the entire outdoor living area.
A large vaulted gable roof addition was constructed above the patio and designed to extend naturally from the home’s existing roofline for a cohesive appearance. Additional upgrades included white post wraps, white soffit and fascia finishes, Trex composite hand railings, seamless gutters, and brick veneer skirting selected to closely coordinate with the home’s existing exterior materials.
The completed project transformed the backyard into a more polished and functional outdoor entertainment space that combines the durability of stamped concrete with the comfort and protection of a covered patio structure.
The Challenge
The original elevated deck had become outdated and no longer provided the level of comfort, durability, or usability the homeowners wanted for their outdoor space. Traditional decking materials required continued maintenance, and the existing layout lacked a defined covered area that could comfortably be used during changing weather conditions.
Another challenge involved integrating several different materials and construction elements into a cohesive final design. The homeowners wanted the new patio, roof structure, steps, walkway, and brick veneer details to blend seamlessly with the home’s existing architecture rather than appearing as a separate addition.
The property also presented logistical considerations due to an existing septic line and septic system components located near the construction area. Site access and concrete placement needed to be carefully planned to avoid unnecessary disruption or damage during construction.
The Solution
To create a more durable and visually appealing outdoor living area, we removed the existing deck and constructed a new stamped concrete patio measuring approximately 312 square feet. The patio was installed slightly lower than the previous deck elevation to create a more grounded and open feel while improving accessibility to the surrounding yard.
The patio, steps, and walkway were all finished using the same Ashler Slate stamped concrete pattern and coordinated concrete coloring to maintain a clean and uniform appearance throughout the entire project. Brick veneer skirting was installed around the patio perimeter and stair areas to tie the new construction into the home’s existing exterior design.
A custom vaulted gable roof structure was built above the patio and designed to extend naturally from the home’s existing gable roofline. The support layout was carefully planned to maintain an open central span across the patio while avoiding interference with nearby doors and windows.
Additional finishing details included white post wraps, white soffit and fascia finishes, seamless gutters, and Trex composite T-rail hand railings for both safety and visual appeal. Electrical rough-in and mounting were also completed for a ceiling fan with integrated lighting to improve comfort and airflow beneath the covered patio.
Throughout the project, careful planning was used to protect existing landscaping and avoid damage to the nearby septic system during excavation and concrete placement.
The Result
The completed project transformed the outdoor area into a custom covered entertainment space designed for long-term durability, low maintenance, and year-round enjoyment.
The stamped concrete patio and walkway provide a clean, upscale appearance while offering greater longevity and reduced maintenance compared to a traditional wood deck. The vaulted gable roof creates a more open and spacious feel while adding valuable shade and weather protection to the outdoor living area.
By combining stamped concrete, coordinated brick veneer finishes, custom roofing details, and upgraded outdoor features, the final result delivers a seamless extension of the home that enhances both functionality and curb appeal.
